Message to Mesquite seniors students, parents, and staff regarding this year's graduation plan:
In preparation for Mesquite's graduation, we have kept our focus on honoring this year’s seniors - the Class of 2020.
While operating within the latest and foreseeable state and county guidelines, the staff and DIstrict Office has worked tirelessly to find a way to go beyond a virtual graduation. There were many options considered by the staff and we also had the input of the graduates through a Google poll. The results of that poll were split almost evenly between three choices. There was no one choice that overwhelmingly received more votes than the other which actually made our decision a bit tougher. We have also taken into account the current restrictions on socialization, the heat that occurs at the end of May, and the importance of this milestone for our graduates.
On Thursday May 28, seniors are invited to wear their cap and gown and receive their diploma in a drive-through manner. We will have an area set up at the front of the school by the flagpole that will provide a photo opportunity and a method to pick up a diploma packet. A professional photographer will take pictures of each graduate. We are still trying to finalize a staging area where the cars will line up to go to the entrance to begin the drive-through ceremony at 6:30 p.m. There will be a limit of ONE VEHICLE per student.
Only the graduate will be permitted to exit the vehicle but parents will be allowed to take photos from the vehicle. All state/county social distancing guidelines will be followed. More detailed information and instructions will be given to seniors and their family on Monday, May 22.
Cap and gowns and yearbooks will be distributed in the same drive-through manner on May 22, 2020. You may drive through any time between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm and we will be at the curb to pass them to you. No one will need to get out of the car. If you cannot make it at that time, please email me to make other arrangements.
We recognize there are strong feelings associated with the challenges we are all facing especially for this milestone event. It is our sincere hope that everyone rallies around this event in ways that ensure a positive experience.
