Graduation Information

Mesquite High School

51th Commencement Ceremony

May 25, 2022

6:30 P.M.

General Information:

As is tradition, the in-person graduation ceremony will be held on the Mesquite High School quad on May 25, 2023, at 6:30 pm.  All guests should be in their seats before 6:15 p.m.  Graduates need to arrive and report to the Media Center at 5:45 p.m

We do not provide tickets for our graduation.  Students are welcome to bring as many guests as they like.

Graduation Attire:

The dress code will be strictly enforced.  It is as follows:

  • Graduates must have a gown, cap, and tassel

  • Girls – dresses, skirts, or dress pants (no sandals, slides, or house slippers - bring your high-heeled shoes to rehearsal if you plan on wearing them)

  • Boys – long pants, closed-toe shoes (no sandals, slides, or house slippers),  a shirt with a collar.  (A tie is appropriate but optional).

Please come dressed in your gown with your cap secured.

Any graduating student who has completed basic training and is an active member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces may, at the student's option, wear a military dress uniform at the ceremony.

Students shall be permitted to wear tribal regalia or recognized objects of religious or cultural significance as an adornment to the customary ceremonial attire, as long as the adornment does not cause a substantial

disruption of, or material interference with, the graduation ceremony.

Caps & Gowns:

If you have not ordered your cap & gown, please contact Mrs. Mickey immediately.

Gowns are to be worn completely zipped.

Mortarboards are to be worn with the flat part parallel to the ceiling and ground.  Use bobby pins to secure it from the wind.

Please take the gowns out of the packaging now so the wrinkles will have time to dissipate. TASSELS ARE GIVEN ON THE DAY OF PRACTICE.

Tips for removing wrinkles:

  • Use Steam from a hot shower on the Graduation Gown. Hang the gown on a hanger for a while after taking it out of the packaging so that it will hang ...leave it on the hanger

  • Iron your gown. Iron the graduation gown on a low heat with steam.

  • Treat the Gown with vinegar spray.

Commencement

Rehearsal:

May 24,  2023

We will rehearse on Wednesday, May 24 at 12:30 pm.

ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!  Graduates need to arrive by 12:15 pm so we can begin on time.   Graduates do not need to wear their cap & gown for rehearsal – they may dress casually. Girls should wear their heels to rehearsal to practice in the grass and on the steps.   Again, attendance is mandatory – in the past, we have had students unable to participate in the ceremony because they missed rehearsal. We will have lunch for the students and staff at rehearsal.

Protocols:

Safety:

  • Individuals who are sick or in isolation or quarantine must remain at home.

  • All attendees should self-screen for fever and COVID-19 symptoms before leaving home for the ceremony.

  • If an attendee is feeling ill, has symptoms of COVID-19, or has potentially been exposed to someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19, they should not attend the graduation ceremony.

 Courtesy:

  • Please remain seated, until the ceremony is completed.

  • You are welcome to move to the stage to take a picture, but please don’t block the view of other guests

  • No noisemakers (especially air horns) as they interfere with the audience’s ability to hear the speaker and some people are very sensitive to loud noises

  • Absolutely NO balloons or confetti  (It is very difficult to  clean from the grass)

Diplomas:

Graduates will receive a diploma holder during the ceremony.  Diplomas may be picked up on Friday at school.  Make sure that you have paid all of your fines and returned your Chromebook and charger in working order so you can have your diploma.
